Pakistan and China agreed to accelerate work in the eastern corridor from Sukkur to Hyderabad in the mode of construction, operation and transfer for early completion.
The decision to this effect came during a meeting between Planning Minister Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar and Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing in Islamabad on Monday.
The two parties expressed satisfaction with the pace of the projects under the CPEC.
The Minister said that the incumbent government is committed to accelerating progress on this flagship project between Pakistan and China.
He appreciated the Chinese leadership and government to expand the scope of CPEC by including the development of the socio-economic and agricultural sector in its platform.
The Minister noted that the signing of the framework agreement on agricultural cooperation was an important milestone, adding that Pakistan will welcome Chinese agricultural companies to explore investment opportunities for the initiation of joint ventures.
The Minister said that the Gwadar Smart Port City Master Plan will be finalized soon, which will mark the way forward for the development of the coastal city.
Several projects under the CPEC framework, including a 300 MW coal-fired power plant in Gwadar and the Kohala hydroelectric plant, were also discussed.
